Our story

Six decades of curious minds.

Larkspur began with four teachers and eleven students. Our founding belief, that every child should be known, challenged, and loved, still guides us today.

Our founding

It started with a question: what if school felt like this?

In 1962, four teachers opened Larkspur in a single stone hall with eleven students and a simple belief: children learn best when they are known, challenged, and loved.

Six decades later, that belief still shapes every classroom. Our campus has grown, but our classes are still small, our teachers still know every name, and curiosity is still the heart of the school day.

Our mission

We prepare curious, kind, and courageous students to think deeply, act with integrity, and lead lives of purpose.

What we value

  • Curiosity

Questions come first. Students learn to wonder, investigate, and follow an idea wherever it leads.

  • Character

Honesty, kindness, and responsibility are taught, practiced, and celebrated every day.

  • Community

Families, teachers, and students build a school where everyone belongs and everyone contributes.

  • Courage

We encourage students to take risks, speak up, learn from mistakes, and try again.

A message from our Head of School

Welcome to Larkspur.

When families visit, they often tell me they can feel it the moment they walk in: a school where students are known, teachers are joyful, and learning is something you do together.

Our job is to help every child become a confident thinker and a good neighbor. We do that with small classes, a demanding and delightful curriculum, and a community that shows up for one another.

I hope you will come see it for yourself.

In their words

What our families say.

  • Our daughter’s teachers saw who she was before we did. Larkspur gave her the confidence to raise her hand, try out for the play, and fall in love with science.
